He is an all-round performer and entertainer. We saw his show last year, and this was also great.

And the bonus – The Palms restricts the use of flash photography, but with my camera and a fast lens, I don’t use flash.

Got some great photos. Check out the gallery http://www.daryllynchphotography.com/galleries/Concerts/20120317-DavidCampbell/

I’ve had some busy days and nights recently so this is another catchup blog

24th Jan – storage day

Today we moved Grant’s “stuff” from his apartment around to a storage facility he has leased. it took a while to sort out what came from the flat into storage crates and work out in what order to load it into the storage unit so maximise the amount that could be stored.

Some of Kelly’s home collection is being stored as well.

This was taken in the caged operator section of the goods lift at the storage unit.

Grant - caged at last!

25th Jan – Frankston Pier shoot

I am a member of the Frankston Photo Club, as it is simple to get to now Eastlink is open, and they had a club outing to the Frankston Pier.

Frankston Pier

26th Jan – Australia Day

One of the events on a Australia Day is a 21 gun salute at the Shrine of Remembrance. I try to photograph the cannon muzzle flash with each firing but last year they moved all spectators a long way back because of safety and noise concerns. I discussed this with them at the time, as I couldn’t get a good photo through the trees in the area.

This year, I went with my Pocketwizard remote triggers allowing me to set up the camera on a tripod close to the cannons and I triggered the photos from behind the safety tape barrier.

Camera set up for wireless remote operation

Check out my photos of Australia Day in the two galleries, one of activities and performances on the day, and the other of the fireworks under the fireworks section.

27th Jan

I left late from work after a software upgrade and setup the new functionality included in the upgrade. I hadn’t left the office all day so I still had to take a photo. I missed the sunset, but was able to capture the dusk light on clouds over the city from across Albert Park Lake.

Melbourne from Albert Park Lake

Over the past decade, Chris and I have been FOTZ (Friends of the Zoo) members and attended a lot of Zoo Twilight concerts during summer.

The concerts were free to zoo patrons when we first started going, so we would go every weekend or two, then a couple of years ago the Zoo managed changed the concept to reduce numbers but charge an entrance fee for the concert as well as entering the zoo. It was about $18 for FOTZ members. But they also changed the entertainment, so we didn’t go too often.

We decided to go to some this year, and invited cousin Tracey and her daughter Jess along, giving them the option of the concert over a few weekends. They chose Babba.

But the interesting part is that in 2012 the zoo has changed the costs again. Headline acts are charged at about $45+ for FOTZ members, while cover bands are $20.

Today is frame making course day at FrameCo. The tools we used are displayed together with the small frame that we made. I was fairly happy with my frame – I got 3 of the 4 corners perfectly joined, pity about the last corner.

My website has not been maintained for some time, but I have decided I need to republish it with new software release, and a fresher look.

I was going to do it during the middle of 2011, but I use The Turning Gate web engines and templates, which, with minimal programming knowledge, allow me to create my pages, indexes, and galleries in Lightroom. The Turning Gate provides Lightroom plugins. I missed the CE development series and jumped straight into CE2, the most current release, issued in late December 2011, and being updated regularly just at the moment.

I have started this process, and developed the basic pages, but bringing galleries on line will be a work in progress for a few weeks.
